110 plans for the fallen
Firefighters from across the Okanagan gathered Wednesday at the Landmark Center in Kelowna to climb 110 floors in honor of the 343 New York City firefighters who lost their lives in the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks.
It is the second year that the Kelowna fire brigade hosts the fundraising event and the organizers were impressed by the turnout.
Twenty-three fire-brigades climbed the entire 18-story Landmark 6 building, with representatives from various locations, including Coldstream, Big White and Penticton.
The participating firefighters had to make a minimum donation of $ 20.
All funds raised will go to Wounded Warriors Canada, helping to support and honor the first Canadian injured rescuers and their families.
