He emphasized that revenge travel contributed to an increase in airline ticket prices and is expected to continue until the end of 2023
The general manager of Wego, Mamoun Humaidan, said in an interview with Al-Arabiya that there are no indications of a decrease in the cost of airline tickets during the current period.
Humaidan added that prices are expected to witness some decline by the last quarter of this year, subject to the entry of more aircraft into service, the entry of new airlines into the market, and the introduction of new tourist destinations, which may adjust from the current prices, saying: There is no return to pre-pandemic prices. .
He explained that the prices of airline tickets rose during the last period due to the weak capacity of the aviation fleet, which contributed to the weak supply in exchange for the increase in demand with the growing concept of retaliatory travel after the pandemic period.
He pointed out that oil prices raised the cost, in addition to the Russian-Ukrainian war, which affected some destinations and airlines, all of which contributed to an increase in the cost of airline tickets by an average of more than 20%, and is expected to continue until the end of 2023.
The general manager of Wego revealed that the most tourist destination that attracted tourists around the world in the first quarter of 2023 is Valencia in Spain, which is the first time in the last 10 years that it tops a destination other than Madrid or Barcelona.
He continued: “The movements of the currency exchange rate against the dollar contribute to increasing demand, as we witnessed growth in travel to Egypt, Turkey and South Africa after devaluing their currencies against the dollar.”
