3 drinks help reduce blood pressure

Hypertension is a common condition that affects many adults, but many of us do not know it is infected, because the symptoms are rarely evident. 1 – beetroot juice

New research by Queen Mary University in London involved 64 volunteers to drink a glass of 150ml beets throughout the study.

All participants were hypertensive patients and found that their blood pressure levels returned to normal.

"The effect was caused by the presence of a chemical called nitrate, which is found in large quantities in beet and other green leafy vegetables such as cabbage and curly kale," the researchers explain.

Professor Amrita Ahluwalia, who led the study, said: "The results of our study have shown that the daily dose of nitrates in the body can be as effective as medicines in reducing blood pressure. If you want to use the nitrates in the daily diet, do not boil vegetables, nitrates are water soluble., But it can be steam cooked or fermented or drinking it as juice.

2 – pomegranate juice

From time immemorial, this fruit has been associated with blood pressure regulation: a study by Queen Margaret University found that participants who drank 500ml of pomegranate juice a day had low blood pressure readings.

The pomegranate acts as an inhibitor of the angiotensin enzyme, which helps the blood vessels to relax and open, reducing blood pressure.

3 – Hibiscus tea

Hibiscus tea is a herbal tea made from hibiscus flowers and many previous studies have found that it has health benefits in reducing high cholesterol and has been shown to reduce blood pressure.
Hibiscus tea can affect blood pressure through antioxidants and anti-inflammatory drugs, which influence the walls of blood vessels and improve their flexibility and elongation capacity, said Dr. Sarah Brur on her website.

"Hibiscus tea contains a diuretic that expels excess fluid and sodium / salt from the body."
