The Alpecin team will make their debut in the Tour de France, which starts on Saturday in Brest, with one big attraction, the Dutchman Mathieu van der Poel, leader of a group with limited experience.
VDP, who has six victories to his name this season, discovered the Grande Boucle like three of his teammates (Merlier, Rickaert, Get rid of it).
The other four riders of the Belgian group (Dillier, Meurisse, Philipsen, Vakoc) all have a single stake behind them.
Limited in the mountains, apart from the Belgian Xandro Meurisse, the formation is built especially for the stages of plain or low relief with van der Poel, the new Swiss champion Silvan Dillier and, for the sprints, the Belgians Tim Merlier, winner of the ‘a stage of the recent Giro, and Jasper Philipsen.
Son of’Adri van der Poel and grandson of the French champion Raymond Poulidor, who died in November 2019, van der Poel will run his first grand tour.
