At that time immunity or the body’s resistance to the cause disease reduced so that it often causes people to get sick. In addition, changing temperatures are one of the conditions that spur viruses and bacteria to multiply more quickly. So, it’s not surprising that more people get sick in the transition season than in the season where the temperature is relatively stable.
The transition season is closely related to several health problems such as flu, cough, cold, fever, respiratory disorders, colds, influenza, digestive disorders, such as diarrhea and abdominal typhus. The incidence of these diseases becomes high at the beginning of the change of seasons or transitions because of the large amount of dirt that is a vector for bacteria and viruses that cause disease, also cannot be separated from the pattern of food consumption.
The disease can arise due to the presence of bacteria or viruses that contaminate food or drink. Chlara Yunita Prabawati, lecturer at the Faculty of Health Sciences (FIK) Universitas Muhammadiyah Surabaya (UM Surabaya), explained that the transition season is the duration of the transition from the rainy season to the dry season or vice versa. The characteristics of the transition season are natural phenomena that fluctuate and are erratic, such as sudden heavy rain accompanied by strong winds, and even the phenomenon of hail.
He said extreme environmental factors such as very dry humidity, weather with a sudden drop in temperature, and exposure to changes in temperature in the environment increase an individual’s risk of disease and decreased immunity. The following is a list of diseases that attack the transition season.
This disease can attack children to adults during the transition season. If you are already exposed to influenza, healing efforts must rest and drink lots of water so that the flu quickly subsides. If it doesn’t heal, see a doctor immediately. Virus influenza can be prevented by routine vaccination every year.
Dengue hemorrhagic fever
DHF should be watched out for every transition season. Prevent the breeding of mosquitoes that cause dengue with good 3M habits (burying used items, draining and closing water containers).
Typhoid or known as typhus disease should also be wary of. This disease is caused by bacteria that grow due to poor sanitation or dirty places. In addition to maintaining a clean environment, we must maintain personal hygiene by eating healthy and clean food and washing our hands before eating.
This upper respiratory tract infection is most commonly found in children under 5 years old because this age group has an immune system that is still susceptible to various diseases. The process of the occurrence of ARI begins with the entry of several bacteria from the genus Streptococcus, Staphylococcus, Pneumococcus, Hemofillus, Bordetella, and Korinebakterium and viruses from the Microvirus group (including parainfluenza and measles viruses), Adenovirus, Corona, Picornavirus, Herpesvirus, enter the human body. through airborne particles.
These germs will adhere to the nasal epithelial cells by following the respiratory process and enter the bronchi and then into the respiratory tract, resulting in fever, cough, runny nose, headache, ear infection, rapid pulse, and red throat. The thing that can be done when you have an ARI is to ask for help from health workers so that physical, clinical, laboratory examinations are immediately carried out, and pharmacological and non-pharmacological therapies are given.
There are several ways to prevent diseases due to the transition season, including:
-Maintain food and beverage hygiene, clean hands properly after defecation or before eating.
-Be careful eating food, do not snack carelessly.
-Drink clean and mature water.
-Keep the environment clean, eradicate flies, mosquitoes, cockroaches, and ants.
-Eat a nutritious and balanced diet, get enough rest, and live a regular life to increase endurance.
-In case of serious complaints, immediately go to the doctor.
