BANDA ACEH, Indonesia: bad weather has forced seven French navy fighters to participate in training for emergency landings in the north of Indonesia.

The commander of the local air base Col. Hendro Arief says that the crews of seven Dassault Rafale fighter planes have landed safely at the Sultan Iskandar Muda air base in Aceh province on Saturday, 90 minutes after they took off from the aircraft carrier Charles de Gaulle Indian Ocean.

Arief says the jets were holding a training exercise outside Indonesian territory when bad weather forced them to land while returning to their aircraft carrier, which was about 100 nautical miles west of the island of Sumatra.

He said Sunday that the Indonesian Air Force has completed a complete inspection of the aircraft.
