Republic of Ireland Drop in FIFA Rankings After October Window

The Republic of Ireland’s FIFA ranking has taken a dip, falling to 63rd after the October international window. Despite a victory over Finland under new manager Heimir Hallgrimsson, a familiar 2-0 loss to Greece resulted in Ireland finishing third in Nations League Group B2.

Burkina Faso’s impressive back-to-back African Cup of Nations qualifying wins against Burundi propelled them past Ireland to 62nd place, marking Ireland’s lowest ranking since March 2015, when Martin O’Neill’s team stood at 66th.

National Team Performances

Hallgrimsson’s previous charges, Jamaica, hold a superior position at 61st. Meanwhile, Northern Ireland climbed two spots to 71st, just behind Iceland (another of Hallgrimsson’s former teams) at 70th.

At the top of the FIFA rankings, Argentina continues to reign supreme, followed by France, Spain, England, and Brazil.

Upcoming Fixtures & World Cup Draw

Ireland’s next match sees them host Finland in Dublin on November 14th, followed by a crucial encounter against England at Wembley three days later. The World Cup draw is scheduled for December 13th, adding further anticipation to the international football calendar.
