A 31% decline in Chromebook sales during the first quarter of 2023

The International Data Corporation (IDC) has released its quarterly report personal computerswhich explained a 31% year-over-year decline in Chromebook shipments during the first quarter of 2023.

And in the Chromebook market, HP emerged as the leader with a market share of 27.8% by shipping 1.1 million units. Moreover, HP was the only manufacturer that experienced annual growth in the first quarter of 2023. Last year, HP shipped 0.8 million units. unit, resulting in a company growth of 35.5%.

It is followed by Lenovo, with a market share of 21.3%, having shipped 0.8 million Chromebooks. The Acer Group took the third position with a market share of 21.2% and shipments of 0.8 million units. Dell ranked fourth with 12.9% market share and shipped 0.5 million Chromebooks, Samsung ranked fifth with 7.8% market share shipped 0.3 million units, and the remaining companies shipped 0.3 million Chromebooks with a market share of 9.0%.

According to the report, the Chromebook market is highly competitive, with many companies vying for the top positions, and HP has found success due to the popularity of its models among consumers and educational institutions alike.

In early 2023, sales were down due to economic uncertainty, and sellers responded by creating new models, including large screen for distance learning and mixed work situations. However, there was an uptick in Chromebook shipments by the end of the quarter as some sellers expected higher Chrome OS license costs in the second half of 2023 and submit applications accordingly.
