Last minute drop in the Portuguese delegation for the Olympic Games, which officially kick off this Friday in Tokyo. Surfer Frederico Morais said Covid-19 was positive.
“The last 24 hours have been very complicated. Managing the possibility of not being able to attend the Olympic Games was perhaps more difficult than being sure. It’s a pity that I announce that I’m infected with Covid-19 and that’s why I won’t be able to represent Portugal. I was very careful, I have been fully vaccinated for over a month, however, I ended up contracting the virus. I’m fine, I feel fine and I will fulfill my isolation. I will be following every second of our team and I am very proud to be part of this group that will certainly represent Portugal in the best way», said the athlete, through a statement.
Frederico Morais, 29, was due to travel to Japan this Friday, in order to join Yolanda Hopkins and Teresa Bonvalot in the historic group of surfers in the sport’s debut in the most important multi-sport competition, and for which he qualified in the World Surfing Games 2019, as the best European competitor.
