Fuenlabrada, Feb 5 (EFE) .- The Fuenlabrada Local Police, through the Antón Animal Protection Team, has opened proceedings against an individual from the town who was caught when he practiced poaching using a copy of the golden eagle, at night and without authorization.
The agents have transferred the proceedings to the Environmental Prosecutor’s Office for an alleged crime against flora, fauna and domestic animals, since the detainee lacked authorization to hunt with this type of animal, as reported by the Local Police through of their social networks.
The Ministry of the Environment already developed a regulation years ago to regulate falconry (hunting with raptors), which established the necessary requirements for the breeding of these birds in addition to the creation of a registry of them with the aim of reducing the illegal bird trade.
The Antón de Fuenlabrada team was the first animal protection unit created in a Local Police three years ago and deals with the defense of animals, in addition to taking charge of all those matters and requirements that have to do with them.
The unit is currently made up of six Local Police officers and was born “in response to a growing social claim by the population, to meet the demands presented by neighbors related to animals”, for which the agents receive information specialized. EFE
