A suspect was arrested early Tuesday morning after breaking into the Colorado Supreme Court building in Denver and open fire on police officers who attended, according to local media reports, citing the authorities.
Shortly after 1 a.m. local time, police officers were called to the Ralph L. Carr Colorado Judicial Center in downtown Denver. Inside, they found a man who opened fire on them, a Denver Police Department spokesperson told local ABC News affiliate Denver 7.
The officers did not respond to the attack. The suspect, who was not identified, was detained about two hours after officers arrived at the scene.
The Colorado Supreme Court has been the center of a legal battle that has drawn national attention after would disqualify to the former president Donald Trump of the Republican primaries of the state for his role in the January 6, 2021 attack on the United States Capitol by his supporters.
The preliminary investigation indicates that “there is a high probability” that the incident has nothing to do with this process, according to CNN.
