On the evening of April 13, after Vesti, the TV channel “Russia 1” presents the main premiere of spring – the multi-part historical drama “Zuleikha opens her eyes.” The film was shot based on the novel by Guzel Yakhina, who, using the fate of the main character as an example, describes one of the most tragic pages in our history – mass repressions of the 30s. The geography of the film sets is from Moscow to the Urals and the Arctic Circle. The authors decided to abandon the comfortable pavilions in order to show life as it is.
From the built-up life in the Tatar village to the socialist village Semruk built in Siberia by immigrants: for the wordless peasant Zuleikhi this hard labor route will prove to be expensive to happiness. The story of Zuleikhi for the author of the novel Guzel Yakhina is not a stranger: the wheel of repression swept through her family.
“To some extent, the death camp, and people were sent here to die, and the fact that they survived is because they had the strength and spirit to oppose this monstrous Stalinist policy,” said People’s Artist of Russia Chulpan Khamatova.
The dispossessed peasants and St. Petersburg intelligentsia in one carriage, on the way to nowhere, past life is cut off, there is no future.
“They go, go, go, go and go, and only graves remain on their way – some managed to” make out “, and some were sprinkled with earth,” says People’s Artist of Russia Sergey Makovetsky.
What power did they survive, if they did not lose – and even found – themselves? How did they survive, cast on a cold and starving death?
This movie is about the strongest love in the world – maternal, about how a man goes to his woman.
16 years of history and two years of painstaking work: the film crew, following the heroes of the film, crossed the country, preserving not only the outline of the narrative, but also the text and the amazing atmosphere of the novel.
“A movie that leaves room for thought, a space for some speculation, and even the finale that turned out to be more voluminous in the film than in the novel, even in this finale there is an ellipsis, very important,” the author of the book Zuleikha opens her eyes “Guzel Yakhina.
Sometimes, to reach the goal, you just need to go. And always open your eyes so that the heart remains vigilant.
The film was shot with the support of AK Bars Bank.
