A teenager develops a possible treatment against the coronavirus

A 14-year-old teenager Anika Chebrolu, who studies at Independence High School in Frisco, Texas, has developed a possible treatment against Covid-19. The young woman won a contest, the 3M Young Scientist Challenge, for a work on the identification of a drug to cure the coronavirus.

That job has earned him a prize of $ 25,000, just over 21,000 euros. The young woman has developed, while she was in eighth grade, a molecule that binds to a protein in the SARS-CoV-2 virus and in short, stops the functioning of the virus, reports 20minutos.es.

Anika arrived at her discovery with a database of more than 682 million compounds, and using a computer program she discovered how and where the molecule would bind to the virus. The young woman was working on her science project to find remedies for seasonal flu, but when the pandemic broke out, she directed her investigations against the coronavirus.

For Anika, her main inspiration has been her grandfather, a chemistry teacher, who instilled in her a love of science.
