Actor Wilford Brimley, star of ‘Cocoon’, dies

The American actor Wilford Brimley, star of films such as “The China Syndrome” and “Cocoon”, has died at the age of 85, reports the local press.

American actor Wilford Brimley, who starred in films such as ‘The China Syndrome’ and ‘Cocoon’, died this Saturday morning at his home in the state of Utah, he claimed a representative to TMZ.

According to sources, the 85-year-old artist remained in the ICU from a hospital on dialysis, and he was very ill for several days. The actor was diagnosed with diabetes in 1979, and has managed the disease ever since.

Brimley is remembered by the American public for the spots for the company Quaker Oats (Avena Quaker) and Liberty Medica, for which he received an award for his advocacy for diabetes awareness.

He started acting in the 1960s as an extra in western movies and as a stunt double at the behest of his friend, actor Robert Duvall. He participated in more than fifty films, among which stand out, in addition to those already mentioned, ‘Brubaker’, ‘The Firm’ (‘Façade’, in Latin America and ‘La tapadera’ in Spain) and the comedy ‘In & Out’.

Brimley became famous for his role in ‘Cocoon’ in 1985 and in its 1988 sequel ‘Cocoon: The Return’, based on a novel by David Saperstein, which won two Academy Awards.
