After the fall on Saturday, Thomas won the Around Romandie race

British cyclist Geraint Thomas secured the overall victory in the WorldTour Around Romandie stage race thanks to third place in the final time trial. The former Tour de France champion won a six-day race in Switzerland half a minute ahead of Ineos Grenadiers’ Australian teammate Richie Port.

Thirty-four-year-old Thomas made up for the disappointment of Saturday with his overall win, when he fell a few tens of meters before the finish of the royal stage on a wet road in the fight for victory and finished third. He was replaced by Canadian Michael Woods, who, as expected, did not defend the yellow jersey today and dropped to fifth place.

The French time trial for 16.1 km in Friborg was won by the Frenchman Rémi Cavagna six seconds ahead of the Swiss Swiss Stefan Bissegger. Thomas lost 17 seconds. In the overall standings, the Welsh cyclist drove 28 seconds to Porto, and Italian Fausto Masnada finished third with a gap of 38 seconds.

Czech cyclist Josef Černý took 38th place in the time trial and finished ninety-first. Jan Hirt gave up in Saturday’s stage.
