CNN – "Jeopardy!" I could see Monday night how Alex Trebek is going.
The host was there for the season 36 premiere of the beloved game show.
He marked a return to the air for 79-year-old Trebek, who had been undergoing treatment for stage 4 pancreatic cancer for four months.
"I really hope you enjoyed revisiting some of our special tournaments last summer," said Trebek as he opened the show. "But today, Jeopardy! It starts its 36th season on the air and I'm happy to report, I'm still here."
Trebek completed his chemotherapy treatments and returned to record "Jeopardy!" a few weeks ago.
It was business as usual while Trebek presided over the episode, where defending champion Jason Zuffranieri won his seventh consecutive game, bringing his total winnings to $ 166.500.
In May, Trebek announced that he was doing so well that his doctors had declared him "close to remission".
"It's a bit staggering," Trebek told People magazine at the time. "The doctors said they did not see this kind of positive result in their memory … some cancers have already been reduced by more than 50 percent."
The survival rate for those with Trebek's type of cancer is 9%, and said the news that could beat the odds left him emotional.
"But they were tears of joy, not tears of depression," said Trebek.
