Horst Seehofer wants to stay without the office of the president of the CSU, probably not the federal interior minister in Berlin. This is reported by the "Bild am Sonntag". It could perhaps continue to work for a few months, but a "confusion" in this post in the Grand Coalition will not exist with him, the newspaper writes, citing close confidants.
Seehofer wants a mutually acceptable solution in the succession and renewal of CSU in the party. If these do not exist, he wants to draw a clear line – in both offices, he reports the "Bild am Sonntag".
Originally the "Zeit" had reported that Seehofer wanted to renounce the presidency of the CSU, but remain a minister. As a result, he wanted to announce his departure as president of the CSU on Sunday at the CSU management meeting. The occasion of the meeting is the preparation of the candidates for the CSU for the European elections next year.
Söder is the favorite for succession
The successor of a farewell to the Seehofer as president of the CSU should be the Bavarian Prime Minister Markus Söder. As the outsider he is still the first candidate for the EVP Manfred Weber.
Seehofer could express an opinion on the question of his future and that of the party on Monday. So Söder presents his Cabinet in the state parliament, before Seehofer does not comment on the "Bams" report.
