Kertajati Airport since starting operations in 2018 it has not attracted many passengers. This international airport in West Java is still considered quiet, especially since this year the aviation business has been hit by a pandemic.
Even so, the President Director of PT West Java International Airport (BIJB) Salahuddin Rafi emphasized that there was actually an aviation market that was formed in Kertajati. At least, this was already established before the pandemic hit the airport business.
He said the Ministry of Transportation had made a route arrangement to attract domestic flights from Husein Sastranegara Airport in Bandung to Kertajati. Several routes were moved from Husein to Kertajati, for example to Balikpapan, Ujung Pandang, Semarang, Surabaya, Medan, to Samarinda.
“The captive market has also been formed because there is a route arrangement from Husein. The propeller is there, the jet is here. Balikpapan, Ujung Pandang, Semarang, Surabaya, Kualanamu, Samarinda,” said Rafi in a blunt event. detik.com.
In fact, only domestic ones are open, there are also international ones. The biggest is the route to and from Malaysia, Rafi even said that Malaysia Airline has made Kertajati the homebase of international flights in Indonesia.
“The international is from Malaysia. In fact, Malaysia Airline has made it its homebase here, Kertajati-Kuala Lumpur-Jeddah,” said Rafi.
Then several airlines also made direct flights abroad, starting from Garuda Indonesia to Lion Air Group which opened the Kertajati to Jeddah route.
“Then, the direct ones are Garuda and Lion Air, Kertajati-Jeddah. Citilink because it uses the A-320 Kertajati-Hyderabad, India-Jeddah. Everything has been running,” said Rafi.
