The Foreign Minister of Armenia, Ararat Mirzoayan, This Saturday, he asked the UN to consider sending a peace mission to Nagorno Karabakh to “maintain stability” in the area, after an Azerbaijani military operation that has left 200 muertosaccording to local authorities.
Mirzoayan also demanded that the organization become more involved in the observation of human rights in the region, lamenting that “allegations that the United Nations is not on the ground and therefore cannot verify the situation cannot be an excuse for inaction.”
The Armenian thus repeated the claims he made in the middle of the week before the UN Security Council, during a meeting on the occasion of the High Level Week of the United Nations General Assembly, in New York.
In his speech this Saturday before the Assembly, Mirzoayan insisted that there is a risk of “genocide” in Nagorno Karabakh, a separatist territory of Azerbaijan populated by Armenians, and called for the withdrawal of the Azerbaijani military from all public buildings in the enclave.
on Wednesday Azerbaijan announced the suspension of the military operation which had been launched the day before against the separatist territory, after the authorities of the self-proclaimed republic agreed to surrender and disarm their armed formations, and after the arrival of a Russian peacekeeping contingent.
