Arrested for sexually assaulting four Ukrainian children asylum in Cartagena

The Civil Guard, within the framework of operation ‘Opikum’, has arrested a man in the Lleida town of La Seu dUrgell for sexually assaulting four Ukrainian minors who were asylum in Cartagena (Murcia).

According to sources from this body, the detainee, who is already in prison, lived in Cartagena with families of displaced compatriots due to the war conflict in Ukraine and gained the trust of mothers to be left alone with the minors.

The operation started By the end of Septemberwhen a Ukrainian woman informed an association in Cartagena, dedicated to providing support to displaced people and refugees, that a compatriot who lived in the same building could be sexually assaulting her minor children.

Assisted by social agents from this association, the mother went to the Cartagena Civil Guard barracks to denounce what his children had told him and explained to the investigators that the now detained man had earned his trust and that of the children, with whom he used to play, and took advantage of the moments in which he was alone with them to perform touching in intimate areas.

Once the mother knew what was happening, she spoke with other compatriots, mothers of minors who were also related to this man, and two of them filed complaints that pointed to the suspect as the author of several sexual assaults.
