At least 29 people, including children, have been killed after an artillery attack by the Burmese Army in the northern state of Kachinwhich has affected a displaced persons camp in the area.

According to the Kachin news group, almost thirty displaced people from campo Monlaingkhatin the northern state bordering China, have died or been injured after an attack by the Burmese Army around midnight on Monday, he stated in a post on his Facebook account. This media assures that the displaced persons camp was “destroyed.”

The Kachin National Organization, for its part, points out on the same social network that more than twenty civilians, including children, died during the artillery attack by the Burmese Army, which is located in an area near the city of Laizanext to the border with China.

A guerrilla of the homonymous ethnic group operates in Kachin that has been fighting the Burmese Army for decades, a conflict that worsened after the coup d’état of February 1, 2021, which ended a decade of democratic transition and has plunged Burmania (Myanmar) in semi-anarchy.

“This is a war crime and against humanity,” emphasizes the spokesperson for the Office of the President of the NUG in a message on his account on the social network X (formerly Twitter), in which he describes it as “horrible” and ” ruthless” the attack.
