At the end of spring, no one expected that: almost half a hundred trees blocked the roads from the snow.

Anot Fire and Rescue Department (PAGD) representative Edita Zdanevičienė, the first reports of fallen trees were received at about six o’clock in the evening from Trakai and Vilnius districts.

Subsequently, reports were recorded throughout Lithuania and felled trees were removed throughout the central part of the country, as well as in northern and southern Lithuania.

Most of the trees were removed from the carriageway, one car was also damaged in Kaunas, two trees were cut and removed from two cars in Šiauliai.

Four cases of fallen trees breaking electrical wires were also recorded.

“The last works were recorded at about 8.30 am, but we hope that they will increase during the day, because not all roads were crossed at night,” E. Zdanevičienė told BNS.

Forecaster of the Hydrometeorological Service Edit Gečaitė BNS said that a southern cyclone reached Lithuania on Sunday evening, covering the entire territory of the country, except Palanga and, in part, Klaipeda.

According to her, heavy rainfall was recorded at night in many districts, with snow and drizzle in the southeastern part of the country, mostly rain, and in the northern and western parts.

“By morning, the highest rainfall was in Šiauliai, where 45 millimeters of rain fell, 6 cm of snow was recorded, 37 mm of rain in Raseiniai, and 34 mm in Panevėžys and Biržai,” said E. Gečaitė.

According to the synoptic, the cyclone will still “travel and turn to Lithuania” on Monday, most of the precipitation will fall in the central and south-eastern regions, but in the evening it should leave.

During the day, precipitation is expected in many districts, in places – heavy, heavy rain and drizzle, wind gusts can reach up to 20 m / s.
