The record temperature was recorded on Thursday afternoon in the remote coastal town of Onslou.
“This is a new high temperature record in Western Australia and the same as the (previous) national temperature record!”
“The previously unrecognized temperature of 50.7 degrees Celsius on Onlow is a record in Western Australia and is equivalent to the temperature recorded 62 years ago on the hottest day in Udnadata, South Australia,” the report said.
It also states that the data are not yet official because their “quality has not been controlled”.
According to data published on the Meteorological Bureau’s website, a temperature of 50.7 degrees Celsius was recorded at Udnadata Airport in South Australia on January 2, 1960.
