Backhoe accident costs the life of a septuagenarian in Beauce

A septuagenarian was killed on Saturday after his backhoe fell several meters. The accident occurred in a private road in Saint-Côme-Linière, near the route du Président-Kennedy.

The authorities received a first report at around 9.45 a.m.

Arrived on the spot, the officers of the Sûreté du Québec discovered an inanimate man at the wheel of a truck equipped with a mechanical shovel in the front.

The victim was declared dead at the hospital.

Firefighters had to use jaws of jail to extricate the unconscious driver from the craft.

When he left by ambulance, the man had not regained his senses. His death was finally pronounced in the hospital.

It would not be a work accident, according to the authorities. A false maneuver would have led to an exit of the road at the same place where a cliff was.

A rescue team was dispatched to the scene.

According to the first information gathered by the officers, the driver was clearing the snow from the road when the accident occurred.
