Rumors of Barcelona’s interest in Martinez are rolling fast after the turn of the year. The 22-year-old attacker is projected Blaugrana as a replacement for Luis Suarez who is now 33 years old.
Martinez showed interesting progress with Inter in the last two seasons. After making nine goals and one assist from 35 appearances last season, this 22-year player scored 19 goals plus six assists in 45 matches.
Barcelona’s interest is also not unrequited. Martinez via his agent several times showed openness to the opportunity to join The cules, mainly because of Lionel Messi.
Messi as is known to be teammate and senior Martinez in the Argentine national team. Barcelona President Josep Maria Bartomeu admitted that there had been a real effort to bring Martinez, but now it was stopped because the situation was not possible.
Pandemic COVID-19 indeed disrupt the club’s finances, with Barcelona already cutting the salaries of its players.
“Barca did have a chance to talk to Inter about Lautaro for several weeks. But the negotiations were stopped by mutual agreement,” Bartomeu told Sport, as quoted Football Italia.
“The current situation does not permit a large investment,” he added.
