According to a note from the executive, and following the permanent monitoring of the situation of the Covid-19 pandemic in the Azores, where there are currently a total of 27 active positive cases, all of them on the island of São Miguel, the situation “Inspires greater care and raises the need for greater attention is related to proof of the existence of at least one local transmission chain of the SARS-CoV-2 virus, with an incidence in the municipalities of Ponta Delgada and Vila Franca do Campo”.
From the analysis carried out by the Regional Health Authority, “it appears that the universe of individuals related to this chain of local transmission – positive cases and close contacts – is aged in the 20/30 years and that the main contamination sites are night recreational spaces ”, explains the executive in the same note.
In view of this situation, the Government of the Azores, in an extraordinary meeting of the Government Council held this Tuesday, by videoconference, determined, for the island of São Miguel, and to take effect between 00:00 on August 13 (Thursday and the 24 hours of September 1, the closure of drinks and similar establishments, with dance spaces; the closing, from 10 pm, of bars and other drinks establishments, with or without a show, with or without terrace service.
The Government Council decided, even though, from 10 pm onwards, fuel filling stations can maintain their operation, exclusively for the purpose of selling fuel and supplying vehicles to the public.
In addition to these measures and within the framework of others already in force, the Government Council decided to extend the public calamity situation on the islands of Santa Maria, São Miguel, Terceira, Pico, until midnight on September 1. and Faial, as well as the alert situation on the islands of Graciosa, São Jorge, Flores and Corvo.
The regional executive also indicates that the permanent monitoring of the evolution of the epidemiological situation may imply the adoption of new measures.
