The call number 1722 for non-emergency firefighters was activated Monday evening by the FPS Interior, the Royal Meteorological Institute (IRM) having issued a bad weather warning.
“The activation of the number 1722 is preventive when a storm or heavy rains are announced. This activation does not predict the severity of the warning and the extent of possible damage.“, specifies the SPF Interior.

Relieve congestion in emergency centers
The aim of the 1722 is to unclog 112 emergency centers and not keep people whose life is potentially in danger waiting. This is not an emergency number, but an intervention number to reach the firefighters in case of need. Regarding possible damage caused by a storm and water damage, it is therefore the 1722 that must be dialed, or submit a request via the electronic counter www.1722.be.
If someone is in danger, it is always recommended to dial 112.
