Democratic presidential candidate Bernie Sanders's daughter-in-law died shortly after being diagnosed with cancer. Raine Riggs was 46 years old.
The Funeral Home Lee & Martin of Burgettstown, Pennsylvania, states that Riggs died on Saturday, the day Sanders returned to Vermont after suffering a heart attack. Her obituary said she had been diagnosed with neuroendocrine cancer.
Riggs, a neuropsychologist, was married to Levi Sanders, who was unsuccessful for a congressional seat in New Hampshire in 2018. The Riggs obituary claims she met Levi Sanders while the two worked in an emergency shelter in Vermont.
The obituary stated that Riggs was a behavioral medicine director at Dartmouth Medical School for several years and started the palliative care department for Dartmouth Medical Center. He also owned the geriatric psychology of Riggs in Windsor, Vermont.
Riggs and Sanders have had three children.
