BANGKAPOS.COM, BANGKA — The number of sufferers of Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) and Acquired Immunodeficiency Syndrome (AIDS) in Bangka Regency, Bangka Belitung Islands Province continues to increase.

Based on data obtained from the Bangka Regency Health Office, it was recorded that in 2020 as many as 48 people were suffering from HIV, 15 people were suffering from AIDS and 4 people had died.

In 2021 there are 50 people suffering from HIV, 15 people suffering from AIDS and 8 people dying.

The virus that attacks the immune system of the sufferer is able to reduce the ability of human immunity to fight foreign objects in the natural body.

Every year an increase in HIV cases is known after active HIV early detection or HIV screening activities are carried out in key populations such as pregnant women, female sex workers, transgender, active male sex.

“We routinely and actively carry out early detection and screening in the community, especially among pregnant women, female sex workers, waria and active male sex workers. If found, they will be immediately treated at the health center or hospital,” explained Then Suyanti.
