Bio Farma and Sinovac Sign Cooperation on the Availability of 40 Million Doses of Covid-19 Vaccine

JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com – The Indonesian government through the state-owned company PT Bio Farma signed a related cooperation the Covid-19 vaccine with a company from China, Sinovac, Thursday (20/8/2020).

The signing was witnessed by the Minister of Foreign Affairs Retno Marsudi and Chief Executive of the Committee for Handling Covid-19 and National Economic Recovery (KPCPEN) Erick Thohir during his visit to Sanya, Hainan, China.

“We both witnessed the signing of an agreement between Bio Farma and Sinovac to strengthen vaccine cooperation. Two documents were signed between Sinovac and Bio Farma,” Retno said in a press conference on Thursday.

The first document is “Preliminary Agreement of Purchase and Supply of Bulk Product of Covid-19 Vaccine“which agreed on a commitment to the availability of vaccine supplies of up to 40 million doses of vaccine.

“Agree on a commitment to supply availability bulk vaccine up to 40 million doses of vaccine from November 2020 to March 2021, “said Retno.

The second document signed by Sinovac and Bio Farma is the MoU on the bulk vaccine capacity commitment in 2021.

“Where Sinovac will give priority to Bio Farma for supply bulk vaccine after 2021 until the end of 2021. This is quite a long collaboration between Bio Farma and Sinovac, “said Retno.

Meanwhile, Erick stated that the cooperation was not just an economic transaction but also a transfer of technology and knowledge between Sinovac and Bio Farma.

“In this visit we also want to ensure the transformation of our health industry, where Bio Farma is working with Sinovac as a win-win, win-win cooperation,” said Erick who is also the Minister of BUMN.

Erick hopes that, with this cooperation, the distribution of vaccine raw materials from Sinovac will begin in November 2020 and mass immunization will begin in early 2021.

“This is what I hope that all of us can immediately rise from Covid-19 in accordance with the timeline that has been confirmed by the mother Minister of Foreign Affairs earlier, how can mass immunization for the Indonesian nation be done early next year, “said Erick.
