Bird flu has been diagnosed at a duck breeding company in Nijkerk in Gelderland. The company’s 10,000 ducks will be killed, the Dutch Food and Consumer Product Safety Authority (NVWA) reports.
The infected company is located on the edge of the area in the Gelderse Vallei where many poultry farms are located. Businesses in the area will immediately receive a transport ban. There are 196 in a radius of ten kilometers. It is also prohibited in that area to hunt ducks or to hunt in areas where this can disturb waterfowl.
There are six other poultry farms within a radius of three kilometers from the affected duck farm. They will be closely monitored for symptoms of disease for the next two weeks, the NVWA reports.
Bird flu continues to spread in Gelderland, writes Broadcasting Gelderland. The disease was diagnosed a week and a half ago at a laying hen farm in Loo (municipality of Duiven). There, the 60,000 animals were culled.
