A circus where a performer suffered serious injuries following an eight-meter fall is being scrutinized by the state's work place safety watchdog.

The Advertiser understands that Circus Rio, which is currently set up at Glenelg, is subject to several prohibitions.

Staff at the site yesterday both afternoon and evening shows went ahead as planned.

While Ms Souza recovers at Royal Adelaide Hospital, circus director Yuri Ebrisimov said performers took center stage on Wednesday with "the show must go on" mentality in honor of their fallen friend

"She has been a great admirer of the good wishes. She has come from the Australian public which helps keep her spirits up," Mr Yuri told The Advertiser.

"Even world professionals can fail at a trick unfortunately. Circus is a venue for humans to test themselves against the odds.

"Gabby is one of the best performers of this time, because of its likes to challenge itself to perform even more complicated and risky over and above even the best performers."

Unsure if the fall was part of the show.

People rushed to Ms Souza's aid while the crowd – mostly made up of children and parents – was asked to leave the tent immediately.

Mr. Yuri said the aerial hoop routine is a famous Brazilian net and harness-free act. He said the authenticity of the performance was important to Ms Souza.
