Climber of Mount Lawu from Wonogiri dies, evacuation of bodies takes 8 hours – A climber named Angga (27) was reported to have died while climbing at Mount Lawu, Sunday (23/8/2020).

Evacuation of the remains of Wonoharjo Village, District / Regency Wonogiri this took about 8 hours.

Member of the Giri Lawu Association (PGL) Dwi Bandono said that the basecamp officer for the Mount Lawu climbing route via Cemoro Sewu received a report on the condition of victims or survivors at around 05.00 WIB.

The survey team from the quick reaction team (TRC) was then gathered at 06.00 WIB.

“The total team that helped the evacuation process was around 50 people,” Dwi was quoted as saying, Sunday (23/8/2020).

The first TRC team then headed to the location of the victim who was at post 2 on the Mount Lawu climbing route via Cemoro Sewu at around 07.00 WIB.

After half an hour or at 07.30 WIB, the next team followed the first team.

The first team arrived at the scene at 08.00 WIB.

“Then we stretched the victim’s body from post 2 to the base camp,” said Dwi.

Dwi said the victim’s body was later identified by the Magetan Police Inafis team.

“The Inafis team has checked and so on, the bodies have been launched to the funeral home. The evacuation process is complete at 14.00 WIB,” he said.

The authorities are still investigating the cause of Anga’s death.
