This 77th day of the New Normal, August 15, José Luis Alomía Zegarra, Director General of Epidemiology, reported that Mexico add up 56,543 the deaths from coronavirus (COVID-19) and 517,714 confirmed cases accumulated.
From the National Palace he pointed out that it is estimated that there are 43,010 active patients, that is, they presented symptoms in the last 14 days, which represents people who potentially contribute to the transmission of the SARS-CoV-2 virus.
There are also 2,365 suspected deaths that could add to the total in the next 24 hours. Also, they have been counted 568,359 negative cases, 84,934 suspects and 351,372 patients recovered.
The distribution by sex in deaths confirmed shows a predominance of 65% in men. The median age of the deaths is 63 years.
The five entities with the greater number of accumulated cases distributed by residence entity are: Mexico City, State of Mexico, Guanajuato, Tabasco and Veracruz, which together form the 42.9% of all registered cases.
Mexico City, the State of Mexico, Veracruz, Puebla and Baja California as the five entities that have registered the highest number of deaths and that together they represent almost half (46.6%) of all those in the country. Mexico City alone accumulates about a fifth (17.4%) of all deaths nationwide.
The official noted that of the 10,747 beds with fan counted this day, to care for patients with severe symptoms of COVID-19, 34% (3,653) are busy and the 66% (7,094) are available. The entities with more occupation of beds of this type are: Nuevo León, Colima, Yucatán and San Luis Potosí. On the contrary, the states with the highest availability of beds are: Campeche, Chihuahua and Chiapas.
Also, of the 31,844 general hospital beds counted nationally, 39% (12,310) are employed and the 61% are available (19,534). The states with the lowest percentage of available beds are: Nayarit, Nuevo León, Coahuila and Colima.
Alomía Zegarra recalled that the warning traffic light epidemiological left the state of Campeche in yellow, the first to reach this level since this new COVID-19 risk measurement began. Meanwhile, 6 entities will remain in red and 25 will remain in orange. Both alerts have limited activities.
This Saturday, the official pointed out that seniors have been the most affected by the SARS-CoV-2 virus. The graphs show that people between the ages of 55 and 75 are the main victims of the pandemic.
In percentages, there has only been 1% of deaths under 18 years old, from 19 to 59 years old 6% have died and over 60 years have died 32%. Among them, most suffered from comorbidity such as obesity, overweight, hypertension, among others.
In response, the health authorities recommend that citizens promote a healthy life in the first 30 years of life, as well as maintain the capacities to delay the onset of diseases in adulthood.
They detailed that to attend to the elderly they are developing a mobile application for institutions of long term care in collaboration with the Center for Scientific Research and Higher Education of Ensenada, Baja California (Cicese).
In addition, they are collaborating with the World Health Organization (WHO) for develop capacity of health systems to better meet the needs of people over 60.
They pointed out that among the key actions for the care of this sector of the population is: combat age discrimination, transform geriatric clinical practice, secure the necessary human resources, and develop a long-term care system.
