Council of Europe: Romania must abandon justice reforms

BERLIN (AP) – The Council of Europe urges the Romanian government to abandon its controversial plans for a reorganization of the justice system. "It would be an important step forward for Romania to implement our recommendations on the rule of law and corruption," he told Secretary General Thorbjorn Jagland on Sunday. In January, Romania assumes the presidency of the circle of EU states. The legal experts of the Council of Europe have criticized in the summer that the desired reform could undermine the independence of the judiciary and damage the fight against corruption.
