The outbreak of 27 cases of COVID-19 in a day camp in Boucherville resulted in collateral victims: 19 relatives of children or staff were also infected.
This brings the total of cases to 46 at the moment.
Public Health then carried out an epidemiological survey with the children and camp monitors and traced their contacts. Result: 19 relatives, either brothers and sisters, parents or friends of the youth of the day camp received positive test results, confirmed Martine Lesage of the CISSS Montérégie-Center.
It does not exclude that other “secondary cases” are added, while not all have necessarily been tested or yet received their screening results.
As to what happened and how the virus entered the summer camp, Ms. Lesage specifies that Public Health never discloses the “zero case”, even when it is known, so as not to identify the person concerned.
Everyone who attended or worked at Camp Charlot l’escargot received a letter from the health authorities, recommending that they self-isolate and take a screening test.
The camp was closed until August 7, a date that can be postponed depending on the evolution of the situation, said Ms. Lesage.
