Covid-19 in India is getting worse, lockdown must be carried out immediately

WASHINGTON DC, – United States (US) experts recommend lockdown throughout the country temporarily to cope with the Covid-19 tsunami on India.

“One of the things to consider is to lockdown meanwhile, so you end up not having many (cases) of the spread (of the corona virus), “he said Dr Anthony Fauci, US infectious disease health expert told The Indian Express on Friday (30/4/2021).

On that Friday too, a daily case Covid-19 in India set a new record by reaching more than 400,000 cases in 24 hours, the highest in the world.

Fauci, director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, compared the situation in India to being like a war CNN on Saturday (1/5/2021).

He said India needed to focus on meeting its urgent needs, such as getting oxygen and personal protective equipment.

“However, one of the things that must be done immediately is to call lockdown country, “he said.

“Nobody likes it lockdown country, “Fauci added.

“Now that’s a problem if you do it for 6 months, but if you do it for only a few weeks, you can have a significant impact on the dynamics of the outbreak,” he explained.

Previously, the US had sent aid to India worth IDR 1.4 trillion which arrived on Friday morning local time (30/4/2021).

The assistance was in the form of 1 million Covid-19 tests and 100,000 N95 masks. Meanwhile, the US is still promising to provide the AstraZaneca Covid-19 vaccine.
