The mandalorian is the flagship series of the Disney Plus launch on November 12, 2019, but it is not the only Star Wars show for small screens in the galaxy. On Friday night of Expo D23, Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy was on hand to reveal plans for two new series: the previously announced prequel for Rogue One with Diego Luna in the role of Cassian Andor and a series of voices reporting Ewan McGregor in the Star Wars universe.
Along with Luna, Kennedy announced that Alan Tudyk would return as a K-2SO droid. On stage, Luna and Tudyk took a light approach to presenting their new series. "We will spend a moment in soap opera, "Luna joked. The series is scheduled for filming in London in 2020. No title has been announced.
After previewing the first trailer of The mandalorian, Kennedy had another special guest: McGregor, who took the stage to confirm his involvement.
"Yes, I'm playing Obi-Wan Kenobi … it's so nice to say!"
The series has an entire season of screenplays ready to be filmed and will go ahead of the cameras next year.
At launch, Disney Plus will host most of the Disney film catalog and a handful or original films and shows. A Disney Plus subscription costs $ 6.99 a month, but Disney is bundling the service with Hulu and ESPN Plus at a price of $ 12.99. The streaming service will be available on a variety of different platforms and in multiple countries at the time of launch.
