According to Spanish media, the deceased victim is in his twenties. He would have been hit by parts of the stage. Three of the injured are in serious condition. The Spanish emergency services report that the victims have been taken to different hospitals.
The multi-day festival took place on the beach of Cullera, in the province of Valencia. According to the Spanish meteorological service, the coast had to deal with a “warm fall wind” several times at night. In doing so, a powerful downward air current hits the land and then spreads in all directions. Spanish media reports of wind gusts up to 65 kilometers per hour.
Video images show, among other things, that detached parts of the decor fly through the air and visitors try to escape the sandstorm. The site was cleared to facilitate the work of the emergency services.
The organization has currently shut down the music event, about 50 kilometers south of the city of Valencia. It is not clear whether the festival will resume. Medusa started Wednesday and would last until Monday. The Dutch DJ Afrojack is booked for this Saturday. A total of about 320,000 visitors were expected.
