The “Curse of the Mummy” actually dates back to the mid-18th century, before the discovery of Tutankhamun’s tomb.
American fiction about theft of mummies and the idea that Egypt is a land of mystery full of the supernatural and magical, show that the “mummification curse” has been known for a long time.
A number of famous writers also believe in the curse, such as Arthur Conan Doyle, author of the Sherlock Holmes series. He also believes Lord Carnarvorn died because of “a guardian spirit residing in the tomb”.
