Jayapura, RNC – The NTT men’s cricket team that competed in the XX Papua PON had to bury the dream of winning a medal. The reason is, in the match against DKI Jakarta which took place at the Doyo Baru Cricket Arena, Jayapura Regency, Saturday (25/9/2021), NTT lost 50-53.
Actually, the NTT team could still qualify for the semifinals if they won the match against West Java in the playoffs. Unfortunately, NTT lost 36-37 against West Java.
Reporting from jubi.co.id, for the cricket sport, Bali, DKI Jakarta, and West Java, both the men’s and women’s teams, both ensured themselves to advance to the cricket semifinals for the Super Sixes number match. They followed the Papuan men’s and women’s cricket teams, which had already qualified for the semifinals because of their host status.
On Saturday (25/9/2021), there were 12 opening parties for the XX Papua PON cricket. The match was held at the Doyo Baru Cricket Arena, Jayapura Regency. A total of eight cricket teams fought in the early rounds, competing for the semifinals of the men’s and women’s super sixes matches.
In the men’s category, the DKI Jakarta cricket team qualified for the semifinals after winning two matches against the Banten (63-47) and NTT (53-50) teams. The Bali cricket team qualified for the semifinals after winning matches against West Java (61-46) and West Sumatra (55-46).
West Java finally also managed to qualify for the semifinals, after winning the play-off match against NTT with a position of 37-36.
In the women’s category, the West Java cricket team became the first team to qualify for the semifinals after defeating Banten (48-40) and DKI Jakarta (40-39. The Bali cricket team also qualified for the semifinals after beating East Kalimantan (38-39). 37) and South Sulawesi (39-36).
The DKI Jakarta women’s cricket team also managed to qualify for the semifinals after winning the play-off round against East Kalimantan (45-43).
The semifinals for the men’s and women’s super sixes will be held on Sunday (26/9/2021). In the men’s category, the DKI Jakarta cricket team will compete against the Bali team, while the Papuan cricket team will meet the West Java team. In the women’s category, the Bali team will face the West Java team, while the Papua team will host the DKI Jakarta team.
The coach of the West Java women’s cricket team, Indra Yuda Hermawan, was satisfied that his team won two victories and advanced to the semifinals. He stated that his team’s victory was obtained thanks to the hard work and cohesiveness of the players. “We are grateful for the results [itu]. Thanks to the hard work of the players and the coach, we were able to win [melawan tim] DKI Jakarta and Banten, advanced to the semifinals. We remain optimistic and become champions of this super sixes. Papua is also a dark horse, we are still blind to its strength, but we are ready to fight and face anyone,” said Indra.
The coach of the Jakarta men’s cricket team, Yeri Rosongna, said he was relieved that his team was able to secure a ticket to the semifinals, because the opponents in the preliminary match were quite persistent. “We are grateful, because in those two games we got maximum results.
