Discharge Akouedo : An equation that seeks solution
For about 50 years, the landfill’s wild Akouedo welcomes all of the waste products in the district of Abidjan. Between concern for populations and management of the site, the equation remains to be solved.
The people living around this great dump are repeatedly mounted in the niche to express the State of their difficult living conditions.
With more than a million tonnes of waste per year, according to studies conducted by the ministry of Health and public hygiene, the environment of this discharge is totally polluted. It in fact represents a risk not only to public health, but also for the ecosystem of the lagoon and the water table of Abidjan. Until now, no concrete decision has been made for its relocation.
