EA previously announced that they are moving away from the Origin brand and rebranding it to EA Play. As part of that rebranding, the Origin desktop application will also be renamed.
Electronic Arts’ extremely beloved (cough) Origin application will change names soon. The application will henceforth be known as EA Desktop. How Origin-eel. That news was confirmed by EA to Gamesindustry.biz.
A new name is not the only thing. The application will also get a visual refresh. According to EA, the new design should provide “a faster, more social experience.” So you can expect better navigation, a “better patching experience” and other design changes that make the application more intuitive.
Last week, EA and Xbox also dropped a bomb by announcing that EA Play will soon become part of Xbox Game Pass Ultimate. This change is scheduled for “at the end of this year”. It is not yet known when the new desktop application will appear, but it is not inconceivable that we can also expect it at the end of this year.
