The jury of the V Respiratory Journalism Award ‘Innovation that breathes’ of GSK has already made the ruling public in an edition with a record number of journalists from both written and audiovisual media.

The winner of the 2023 edition, for the second consecutive year, the journalist Rocío R. García-Abadilllo, for her report ‘Vaping: how the tobacco industry looks for new “customers” with adolescents and even children’ published in the newspaper El Mundo last May.

Once again, due to the high quality of most of the works presented, the jury has chosen to award two honorable mentions, which went to journalists Julián Casas Luengo for the audiovisual report ‘Asma: a chronic disease. What are the symptoms and treatment?’, broadcast on Canal Extremadura; and Inés Sánchez-Manjavacas for the article titled ‘Nine out of ten young Spaniards are exposed to “digital smoke”: smoking and vaping are fashionable on social networks’ published in El País.

In this edition the record of participants has been broken, as they have presented 34 journalists both written media (print and digital) and audiovisual media (radio and television), presenting 55 works published between September 2022 and September 2023.

All of them have been dedicated to raising awareness of everything surrounding respiratory health, with special attention to chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) and asthma, as well as all aspects related to these pathologies: therapeutic advances, quality of life , basic and translational research, social, labor, clinical aspects, among others.
