On Tuesday, the EU finance ministers, including the Austrian head of department Gernot Blümel (ÖVP), discussed in a video conference how to proceed against the economic consequences of the corona crisis (11:00 a.m.). In doing so, they assess the implementation of aid measures of 540 billion euros that have already been adopted. Another issue will be the fight against money laundering.
Germany and France also presented a plan on Monday to fight the deep recession caused by the pandemic with another 500 billion euros. Unlike previous measures, this is not about loans, but about non-repayable grants from the EU budget for the countries most affected. States like Austria or the Netherlands reject this and only want to grant loans.
In addition, the ministers discuss the EU Commission’s proposal to create a European supervisory body to combat money laundering and to redraft the criteria for a black list of risk countries.
