The UFC 286 mixed martial arts tournament took place last weekend in London, Great Britain, where the 31-year-old fought for the third time in the main event. Leon Edwards (21-3 MMA, 13-2 UFC) and 35-year-old Kamaru Usmanas (20-3 MMA, 15-2 UFC). L.Edwards celebrated the victory after 5 rounds by majority decision (48-46, 48-46, 47-47) and defended the UFC welterweight championship belt for the first time.
Former UFC heavyweight champion and good friend of Usman Francis Ngannou felt strange when he watched this fight. He hosted a UFC 286 watch party in his village in Batie, Cameroon, and posted a video of himself cheering Usman’s punches and criticizing Edwards’ apparent grab for the fence.
When the fight ended and Bruce Buffer announced the official decision of the judges, F. Ngannou immediately disagreed with it.
“No, no, no, no, no,” repeated F. Ngannou. “Damn it.”
And in the video of the moment, F. Ngannou explained that he was satisfied with the effort shown by K. Usman.
“One thing I’m happy about is that usually when people get knocked out, they don’t come back in another fight,” Ngannou said. “He was there, he fought tonight.”
F. Ngannou also revealed that while preparing for this fight, K. Usman was not completely healthy.
“I know he hasn’t trained,” Ngannou said. “He didn’t have time to train properly because of a lot of injuries, but he fought. It was an unearned victory and now he is psychologically stronger than before.”
Despite two failures against L.Edwards, F.Ngannou believes that K.Usman will win the championship belt again in the future.
“We’ll see what happens next. I believe he will get the belt back,” said F. Ngannou.
