Sharjah 24 – Asaad Khalil:

The English Football Association has renewed the contract of first national team coach Gareth Southgate, until the end of 2024.

And the federation said in an official statement, that Southgate, who will celebrate his 5th anniversary as coach of the national team at the end of this month, oversaw a positive era of development by leading England to the World Cup semi-finals (2018), and also achieved the best result in the European Cup finals over 55-year-old reached the final last summer.

Southgate’s original contract with the FA ends in July 2022, but his success in leading the “Three Lions” team to the Qatar World Cup, which will be held from November 21 to December 18 next year, hastened the renewal of the contract between the two parties.

Southgate will therefore be at the helm of the technical staff for the next European Cup, scheduled in Germany in 2024, whose qualifiers start in March 2023.

Southgate took over the national team coaching in September 2016, temporarily, succeeding Sam Allardyce, just two months after the latter took over the national team, due to allegations of corruption, before he was officially confirmed in his position two months later.
