Federal Council press conference – “Our system is not designed for this situation”

The number of coronavirus cases increases to 9765

The number of coronavirus diseases in Switzerland continues to rise rapidly: on Wednesday noon there were already 9765 confirmed cases, 929 more than 24 hours ago, as health minister Alain Berset told the federal media.
Berset spoke of an “expected increase”. It was “not an explosion”. The measures prescribed by the Federal Council would be well respected.

Berset praised the “excellent cooperation across the country”. Although the situation differs from canton to canton, everyone pulls together. There are “permanent contacts” between the Confederation and the cantons. Switzerland continues to function, just a little slower.

“We will soon reach 10,000 tests per million people,” said Berset. This makes Switzerland one of the countries where the most tests are carried out. He countered the criticism from various epidemiologists that Switzerland did not test enough. “We will go further.”
