Federal government announces vaccine for adolescents 12 to 17 years old with risk factors

In addition to selecting the risk or comorbidity group for vaccination, consistent with the clinical diagnosis, the institution and care unit must be indicated.

The Ministry of Health suggested that, as far as possible, “the same clinical care units (generally third-level units specialized in pediatrics) where candidates to receive the vaccine are treated as vaccination sites.”

Last Friday, the Undersecretary of Prevention and Health Promotion, Hugo López-Gatell, in charge of managing the pandemic in the country, reported that Mexican minors with chronic diseases would begin to receive their vaccine in the first week of October.

López-Gatell insisted that this decision is in accordance with the provisions of international and regional agencies, which “continue to maintain the position” of prioritizing vaccinating people over 18 years of age but also considering people with chronic diseases, even if they are minors.

The comorbidities to be considered are immunosuppression (cancer, transplants or HIV), severe chronic lung disease, chronic kidney, liver or digestive system involvement, severe neurological disease, diabetes and other endocrine diseases, genetic or chromosomal abnormalities, and adolescent pregnancy.
