According Gamesindustry.biz, FIFA 21’s digital launch was the largest in the franchise’s history in the UK. Physical sales have dropped to 42%, something that changes the tradition in which FIFA sold more physical copies than digital ones.
Downloads for the current edition of FIFA are up 31% compared to FIFA 20. However, the increase in digital purchases does not compensate for the disappointment in the sale of physical copies.
Anyway, FIFA 21 has ended up being one of the 10 best-selling games during October 10 according to Gfk. Fans may be waiting to buy the new FIFA 21 in November following the launch of the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X / S, so sales could continue to grow. EA is offering a free update for the new consoles, but many players may not be aware of it.
FIFA 21 was released on October 6 and is available for PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X, Xbox X One, Nintendo Switch, and PC. However, Nintendo Switch users have not purchased the game. Physical UK sales of the game for the Switch are two percent, while PS4 and Xbox are 62 and 36 percent respectively.
This can be explained by EA’s marketing material for FIFA 21 on Nintendo Switch, which saw how “FIFA 21 Legacy Edition will feature the same innovation as FIFA 2020 without any new development or major changes.” Therefore, Switch users would have the same game as FIFA 20.
